UX Research / Design
This design was created during a UX internship at Nextens in Amsterdam. Nextens positions itself as the all-in tool for tax specialists. Throughout this internship I learned a lot about UX and UX research as well as working in teams as a proper UX designer.
For this project, the first step was analysing the existing design of the VAT return system. I identified what elements seemed irrelevant or unnecessary in the flow. I also had a valuable conversation with the Product Owner of the VAT return. He provided key insights and suggestions for a new design.
Building on methodologies I was familiar with I designed a user journey and a user mapping to gain insights in the flow and what area’s were in need of improvement. Another element I used was empathy mapping to gain a better understanding of the users and their needs. All of these documents can be found in the reflection.
Based on my research and received feedback, I was able to create a customer survey. I asked them about the relevance of current features, potential new elements, and their own ideas for improvements
While the survey was underway, a colleague and myself planned a workshop. We felt this was a useful option to help fill in the gaps I was unable to fill with my personal research with the knowledge within the tech department. I researched the different types of workshops and the assignments we could fill out. With all the knowledge and elements I was able to design a workshop that gathered necessary information and a greater understanding of the users needs.
Me during the workshop I gave
The design of the VAT return came together quite efficiently . I had a clear understanding of the changes and additions for a new design. After implementing all the changes in the correct formatting, I was able to test the prototype internally with people that are also customers. This testing helped me ensure that the implemented changes were effective.
This internship provided me a lot of new knowledge about UX and UX research. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Nextens and feel like Nextens helped me grow as a designer. I was taught skills that I still use and will always use.
(disclaimer, the prototype is no longer fully clickable, but does show the design and flow)
